School Ethos

In our school we are committed to providing appropriate opportunities for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural values through both the ethos and the curriculum.  This will be undertaken in partnership with parents/carers and will take account of the individual needs of pupils and the views of parents/carers.

Our school welcomes and encourages diversity and individuality, while emphasizing our common commitment to moral values such as honesty, respect for others, compassion and justice.  Fundamental principles of our school are that all who are involved in the life of our school have the right to be respected as individuals and carry the responsibility to act in a considerate and respectful manner towards others.  We are firmly committed to the elimination of any form of discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender or disability.

School and Community Links

Luss Primary School plays a vital role in the community.  Whenever possible we try to play an active part in promoting the aims and ethos of the National Park and in village life. At special festivals we invite the community to share our services and public events with us. We make use of the village church and have services there at Christmas and Easter. The church minister visits the school once at month. At present the church does not have a permanent minister and this has not happened since the start of COVID restrictions.

We regularly put up posters in local shops and notice boards to inform people of special events.  Often members of the community become involved with topic work and come into school to help with various activities e.g. baking, crafts, eco-work etc. Pupils visit local businesses for particular activities – healthy eating during Health Week, tidying gardens and public areas in Eco-week and a local hotel hosts our Christmas party.

We have been involved with Luss Estates who have arranged for us to for around their  seasonal and themed faerie trail in the local woods.Their head gardener has also worked with the school giving gardening advice and helping to plant bulbs.

Our children are well known to villagers who share the joy of watching them grow and develop into responsible young people.  We “give something back” by playing an important part in community life.
